National Nutrition and Food Technology Research Institute Accepted the Responsibility of Food Surveillance

Given the importance of missions and objectives ofNational Nutrition and FoodTechnology Research Institute, affiliated to SBMU, as well as effective measures having been taken by this institute especially in recent years in order to promote nutritional health and food safety in the community, Deputy of Ministry of Health and Medical Education has appointed this institute to be in charge of food surveillance throughout the country.

Prof. Hajifaraji referred to the history of this institute and stated that National Nutrition and Food Technology Research Institute, having received the approval of the Council of Ministers, was established more than 50 years ago. The most important mission of this institute is to assess the nutritional status of the community, detect and identify deficiencies, shortages and underlying causes of obstacles in terms of nutrition and their trend in different age groups, social strata and geographical regions.

He shed light on the aim of this assessment which include providing scientific basis to support policy makers, programmers and executive managers who make efforts to fulfill nutritional requirements of the community, developing public health, training experts and specialists to advance knowledge, programming for technical, scientific and executive management in terms of food production, consumption and public health, as well as raising public awareness in community in order to promote and develop an appropriate food and nutrition culture in which the importance of healthy nutrition is highlighted.
